How to apply for HELB loan

HELB loan is the type of government loan that is offered to the students. HELB provides loans to the students in the form of bursaries, scholarships and loans. These loans are based on the need of the students and the duration of the program. The students are required to repay the loan amount as soon as they finish the study program. The interest rate on the loan is four percent. In order to qualify for the loan, the applicant has to be a Kenyan citizen and have a full time course in an accredited institution of higher learning.

The first time applicant has to register for an account on the HELB web portal. He must also read the financial literacy literature and the financial literacy notes. After the registration, the HELB web portal sends a link that will enable the applicant to activate his or her account. The link will also send the student to a brief exercise on financial literacy. Once the applicant has successfully activated his or her account, he or she can start applying for a loan.

The HELB loan application process is easy to complete. Applicants can use any of the listed banks to apply for the loan. They have to sign the form and attach all the required documents. These documents include passport size photographs, admission letter, Smart card and KRA pin number. It is also important to fill the form accurately. The applicant must agree to all the terms and conditions. HELB lawyers will check whether the forms are filled correctly.

The second time applicant must also register for an account. The HELB web portal will send a link to the applicant’s email address. After clicking the activation link, he or she will receive a welcome message from the board. After clicking the activation link, the applicant will be asked to fill out the form. Once the form is filled, the applicant is required to print it and submit it to the HELB Student Service Centre.

HELB loans can be used for school fees, books, accommodation and other expenses. The loan amount is divided between the tuition fees and the upkeep costs. In order to repay the loan, the borrower must have a good job. The HELB board also offers a grace period to the students before they have to start paying back the loan.

The Mobile Application is also available for the Safaricom subscribers. After downloading the application, the user must print out two copies. The copies of the application must be signed by guarantors and authorities. The applicant must also fill out a brief question and answer section.
